Special Conditions
For books and book chapters, a request should be made to the publisher when contracting work for the right to make the book/chapter open access immediately upon publication or within 12 months of publication, IDRC does not require assignment of any copyright to IDRC, only permission to publish certain outputs in the IDRC Digital Library, If immediate open access is not possible, items must be archived within 12 months of publication, Must acknowledge IDRC contribution(s) in all IDRC-supported publications, Project outputs will be made freely and openly available under the most recent version of the Creative Commons Attribution (CC BY) licence.

Notes
  • Policy applies to peer-reviewed articles, books and grey literature
  • Grey Literature must be deposited in IDRC Digital Library
  • Authors should avoid entering into agreements with publishers and other organizations that might impede compliance with IDRC's open access policy
  • Open Access activity will be monitored during the project cycle
  • Open Access dissemination plan to be included in all research proposals submitted to IDRC
  • Outputs produced beyond the funding period, but resulting from IDRC funding, should be treated in the same manner as any other IDRC-funded project output
  • Approximate costs of open access publishing of research outputs should be included in research proposals as part of dissemination plan
  • Costs of open access publication of research outputs for projects approved before 20-Jul-2015 may be reimbursed by IDRC
  • Costs of open access publication of research outputs for projects approved on 20-Jul-2015 or after will be included in project budgets
  • In exceptional circumstances, access to IDRC project outputs may be restricted
