About Sherpa Fact

Sherpa Fact is a service designed to provide guidance to researchers on whether a journal complies with a funder's open access policies. It offers clear advice on the available options for both open access archiving and publishing routes, to allow researchers to make informed decisions on where to publish.

The service covers seven UKRI Research Councils, the Wellcome Trust and the Charity Open Access Fund (COAF).

Data Sources

This service combines and interprets data from the following data sources:

Sherpa Romeo: This service provides information on journals, publishers and publisher open access policies.
Sherpa Juliet: This service provides information on funder open access policies.
Directory of Open Access Journals (DOAJ): This organisation provides information on whether a journal is open access.

Linking to a Specific Record

All compliance results have a canonical URL, which is displayed in the Information section.

All publisher and publication records include a URI which can be used for linking. These can be seen by viewing their records in Romeo or Juliet.

Our data is available under a CC BY-NC-ND licence. For more information, please visit our re-use policy page.

Sherpa Fact API

The service does not currently have an API. However, plans are underway for its development.
