Special Conditions
CERN authors are required to publish all of their peer-reviewed primary research articles open access (by default under a Creative Commons attribution license, i.e. CC-BY-4.0), CERN authors should publish, as much as possible, in the journals covered by SCOAP

Notes
- In January 2014, CERN and international partners in nearly 50 countries launched the SCOAP3 initiative, which has converted most journals in the field to Gold Open Access at no cost for authors
- CERN authors should publish their physics papers in the journals covered by SCOAP
- Open Access publishing for the majority of research articles outside of the SCOAP3 journals is supported through dedicated arrangements with publishers

Special Conditions
Different CERN projects have different requirements for Open Access to Data, please see individual project guidance for details, CERN Level 1 data associated with journal publications must be made available via appropriate repositories, CERN Level 2 may be made open access according to a release policy of the project, CERN Level 3 data may be released under a reasonable embargo period, with a maximum of 10 years depending on CERN Data Level and Project, CERN Level 4 data can not be made open access, Creative Commons licenses and Digital Object Identifiers are encouraged
